Help to solve errors 6189-83
Help to solve Errors: -6189, -83 or 6190, -83: QuickBooks was unable to open the company file
QuickBooks users are confronted with several problems while working in a multi-user environment. You might have noticed frequently that when you try to open a company file (possibly hosted by more than one computer in your network), you receive QuickBooks Error 6189, 83 that states:
"QuickBooks was unable to open the company file"
The issue generally arises when you upgrade to a higher version of QuickBooks in a multi-user environment and try to access the company file. The problem may also occur if the connection to the server hosting the company file is lost or broken. In this case, you can download the QuickBooks Connection Diagnostic Tool and easily resolve this issue.
Additionally, you can use the Product information window to verify that no client computer is hosting the company file. You may find a specific client computer on which Hosting is not set to ‘OFF’. To check this, open QuickBooks and select ‘File’ > ‘Utilities’ > ‘Stop Hosting Multi-User Access’. This should resolve the problem.
However, if the problems still persist, you need to go for QBW file repair using a professional QuickBooks repair utility.
