How to solve Error -6190, -82: QuickBooks was unable to open the file {path\filename] on the host
QuickBooks incorporates a handful of advanced and easy-to-use features to help you effectively manage your basic business transactions and keep track of all your informative financial information. It keeps all your company data in a single QBW file. It also maintains a transaction log file (or TLG file) to log all changes made to the company file. These changes are first recorded to the QuickBooks transaction log file and then reflected in the company file.
Sometimes the transaction log mismatches with the company file, if you take the company file to a different computer, update it without the transaction log, and then copy it back to the server. The above situation generally leads to the Error -6190, -82 while running QuickBooks in multi-user mode on Windows Server.
"Error code -6190, -82 QuickBooks was unable to open the file [path\filename] on the host computer [host name]."
In this case, find the mismatched transaction log file (.tlg) and delete it. The transaction log file will be automatically created the next time you open the company file. Now, you can check the File Information for this company by pressing F2 (QuickBooks should be running). The product information appears, wherein the location field will tell you the path to this file.
There are other remedies to this problem, such as updating to the latest QuickBooks release. However, problems may persist if there is some corruption in your company file or the transaction log file. In such circumstances, you need to perform complete QuickBooks recovery using professional third-party software.
